Veikko Karvonen. One of Finland’s all time marathoners
Veikko Karvonen
Veikko Karvonen is one of Finland’s all time marathoners, winning 15 of the 35 marathons he raced in his career. An Olympic medalist, Veikko placed third in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics behind Alain Mimoun and Franjoo Mihalic. A little earlier that same year, Veikko became the first Finn to ever win the Boston Marathon.
It is no wonder that Veikko was number one in numerous Track and Field News annual marathon world rankings. His personal best from 55 years ago is a staggering achievement even for today’s standards: 2:18:56.

Hi Thanks for the review. Karhu was actually founded in Helsinku in 1916. Hence legendary Finnish running brand. Karhu has a lot more first than most people in the US know; first nylon upper eva running shoe in the late 60s, first removable spike for the Mexico olympics, first Air Cushioned running shoe in 1976, first lightweight hikers it owned Merrell in the 80 s and allowed them to use it’s Ir cushioned mid sole.
